Remil Aguda successfully defended his PhD dissertation on "Challenges and Potential Solutions to Microalgae Cultivation in a Space Station-based Biorefinery System". Dr. Aguda will be joining the Energy Institute of Louisiana as Post-Doc. Congratulations Remil!!

For this event, Remil's paper on the “Effect of Macronutrient Levels on Chlorella vulgaris Cultivation for Long Duration Spaceflights and Space Settlements” won FIRST PLACE in the STEM Paper Competition. Robert was the Overall Winner of the Graduate Student Oral Presentation during the 2023 Engineering and Technology Week. He presented our work on reactor design for methane bioconversion into higher-value products.

Our work on in situ resource utilization (ISRU) to support future Martian settlements also won SECOND PLACE (presented by Lu) and THIRD PLACE (presented by Seth) on the Undergraduate Poster Competition during the 2023 Engineering and Technology Week.
